Picasso began to spend his summer holidays in Antibes Juan-les-Pins in 1920, and he returned most summers to the Côte d’Azur until the outbreak of war. Everything he made is suffused with the light of the Mediterranean, as he took pleasure in a return to the shores of the sea where he was born. His intimate knowledge of this part of the French Riviera led Picasso to go back there after the war, notably in 1946, when his visit

gave rise to the Picasso collection in the Antibes museum. Here he showed his affinity for the city in compositions that reflect its classical and mythological past. For Picasso these were working holidays, as is revealed by the hundred works gathered in the exhibition.

Open from 10 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm. Closed on Monday.
